Swing Education, a staffing application for substitute teachers, is now accepting nominations for the 2020 class of inductees into the Substitute Teacher Hall of Fame. Now in its second year, the Hall of Fame recognizes substitute teachers for their outstanding work as educators and their contributions to the students, teachers, and schools they serve. This year’s inductees will be announced and profiled on the Swing Education website in June.
“The immense impact educators have on students has been amplified during this period of school closures,” said Mike Teng, CEO of Swing Education. “Now more than ever, it is important to recognize the critical role of all educators, including substitute teachers. School closures have impacted each part of the educational community differently. Currently, most substitute teachers across the country are not working and not getting paid, but not by choice. So this year, it feels even more important to recognize the role substitute teachers have in schools and the impact they make in students’ lives. We look forward to hearing the stories of noteworthy substitute teachers from across the country and awarding them for their hard work and dedication.”
All 2020 inductees will receive a prize package that includes a $500 cash award, $250 for professional development or school supplies, and a plaque.
All nominations, which will detail the substitute teacher’s impact in the education setting, are due by May 25, 2020. Any individual who is a substitute teacher working at district, charter, private, or parochial schools in the United States and its territories and who has been teaching for one or more years is eligible for the Substitute Teacher Hall of Fame. Substitute teachers may be nominated by others or may nominate themselves for this recognition.
The inaugural class of Substitute Teacher Hall of Fame inductees included Valerie Aduba, who teaches at multiple schools in Sacramento, CA; Michael Packard, who teaches at The Renaissance Academy in Phoenixville, PA; and Ralph Starace, who teaches at Sussex County Technical School in Sparta, NJ.
