Slooh, the pioneer in offering live online telescope feeds of the universe and an NGSS-aligned curriculum for school communities worldwide, recently closed a nearly $5 million round of funding. This investment—including Connecticut Innovations, Slooh Founder Michael Paolucci, and several family offices dedicated to space education—will help the company further innovate as it works to bring space exploration to more students worldwide.
“Slooh is unlocking opportunities for students around the world to engage with space science through hands-on learning. Our interactive platform not only ignites passion for STEM fields, it opens up pathways for students to pursue careers in astronomy, aerospace, and beyond,” said Paolucci. “This latest funding reinforces our dedication to providing every student with an accessible on-ramp to the space industry.”
This news comes on the heels of Slooh’s recently-launched, next-generation online learning platform being named a winner of Tech & Learning's Awards of Excellence program for “The Best Tools for Back to School.” Slooh was recognized in the Secondary category for its versatility, compatibility, value, and ability to help schools solve challenges and support continuous instruction. In addition to this recognition, Slooh was named an “Elite 200” startup by the 2022 ASU-GSV Summit, a finalist in the 2022 Bett Awards, and a winner of the Educators Pick Best of STEMTM 2021 awards by Catapult X, the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), and MCH Strategic Data.
For students, Slooh’s new platform allows for more interactivity and personalization as students complete Quest learning activities. This includes the ability for students to create custom posters depicting what they discovered using Slooh’s fully autonomous online telescopes. With the platform, students are also able to participate in independent study programs – focused on citizen science, science communications, and workforce development – designed by Slooh.
For educators, the new platform features an improved, more intuitive dashboard and new support resources. This includes on-demand training and onboarding videos, situational awareness of Slooh’s live telescope feeds, and easy search and browse navigation to Slooh’s learning activities. Additional improvements allow educators to easily assign these learning activities to students and monitor their progress. Slooh integrates with popular learning management systems including Schoology, Brightspace, and Google Education.
