Dr. Antonio A. Fierro, who has contributed to several literacy curricula focusing on instruction for the English learner, has joined Tools 4 Reading as the company’s first-ever Chief Academic Advisor. A past Texas Teacher of the Year winner, Dr. Fierro brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of education to Tools 4 Reading, which helps educators gain the expertise to implement effective classroom reading instruction.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Antonio join our team,” said Mary Dahlgren, founder and president of Tools 4 Reading. “His areas of expertise — early childhood education, all aspects of phonology, and research that impacts students’ learning of English as a second language — will be invaluable as we chart the future of the company.”
Dr. Dahlgren and Dr. Fierro have collaborated in the past, serving as co-authors of Kid Lips, a curriculum that teaches the phonetics of English to young children.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Mary for almost 20 years,” said Dr. Fierro. “Mary is brilliant and always looking for ways to improve a student’s learning experience by fortifying a teacher’s knowledge base. She and I have collaborated on so many projects over the years that it made perfect sense to join her and Tools 4 Reading and continue our quest to ensure that all children can read.”
Dr. Fierro also has a personal interest in advancing the knowledge base and understanding of dyslexia and other reading disabilities because his son, currently attending his second year of college, has dyslexia.
