Kami, an all-in-one classroom application that makes K–12 learning more engaging, accessible and interactive, announces the creation of the Kami Advisory Group—helping Kami meet the diverse, ever-changing needs of U.S. education leaders, educators and students.
Throughout the U.S., schools and districts face ongoing challenges around reengaging students, learning gaps, staffing shortages and more. The all-new Kami Advisory Group elevates educators’ voices, helping the Kami team prioritize and implement updates and changes in real-time tied to direct feedback and input from educators. Used in more than 90 percent of schools and districts throughout the U.S. by more than 38 million teachers and students, the Kami Advisory Group empowers educators through not just understanding their needs, but establishing true working partnerships.
The Kami Advisory Group consists of former superintendents from a diverse set of leading schools and districts across the U.S., with each member bringing unique experiences and background to their roles.
Kami’s Advisory Group includes:
- Dwight Jones, former Colorado commissioner of education, former superintendent of Nevada’s Clark County School District and interim superintendent of Denver Public Schools
- Dr. Michael Hinojosa, former superintendent of Dallas Independent School District and Atlanta’s Cobb County School District
- Michael Poore, former superintendent of Arkansas’ Little Rock School District
- Dr. Alicia Thompson, superintendent at Wichita Public Schools in Kansas
- MaryEllen Elia, former superintendent of Florida’s Hillsborough County Public Schools and former New York State commissioner of education and president of the University of the State of New York (USNY)
“Educators have so much on their shoulders right now,” said Dwight Jones, a Kami Advisory Group member, as well as a former superintendent of Nevada’s Clark County School District and interim superintendent of Denver Public Schools. “Kami recognizes the importance of educators, and the Kami Advisory Group provides an avenue for feedback and direction to ensure Kami continues being teacher-first—making educators lives just a little bit easier. I am excited to be part of the group and I know each one of us brings a wealth of insight.”
Designed to make classroom instruction engaging, Kami enhances any existing classroom resources and curriculum with over 40 tools and features, including rich annotation and markup tools, voice and video comments, read aloud and voice typing options, imported multimedia, PDF editing and more. Kami integrates with leading learning management systems—such as Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas and Microsoft Teams—transforming classroom learning into a space for rich interactions with instructional content.
“We are fortunate to have each one of these incredible voices in the education space join our Kami Advisory Group and help us better support educators in reaching their ambitious goals,” said Hengjie Wang, co-founder and chief executive officer of Kami. “Educators want the absolute best for their students, and we are determined to help as much as we can to make that possible.”
