Britten Follett, who leads Follett’s PreK-12 business, has been named to the Educational Book & Media Association’s (EBMA) board of directors. The Warrenton, Va.-based not-for-profit association is committed to developing better techniques and procedures for the sales, marketing, and distribution of print books and related media in the school and library markets.
EBMA’s board of directors brings together a wide range of wholesalers and publishers to address the ever-changing book and media buying needs of the educational marketplace. It was founded in 1975 under its original name of Educational Paperback Association.
“Promoting the importance of literacy for students, and the key role print books play, has long been a hallmark of our company and a personal passion of mine,” Follett said. “I’m honored to join my colleagues in a collective effort to continue to build a demand among educators, librarians, and parents for literature.”
In 2019, the fifth-generation family member was named Executive Vice President of Follett School Solutions — Follett’s $500 million PreK-12 division that includes recent start-up businesses Follett Book Fairs and Follett Book eFairs.
Prior to joining Follett in 2010, she was a television reporter for 10 years, including four years at KOKH in Oklahoma City. A storyteller at heart, Follett’s investigative reports at KOKH earned her Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards. She also wrote, published and brought to market a top-selling book, Who Killed Kelsey?, a critique of the child welfare system that resulted in the murder of a two-year-old Oklahoma girl.
In addition to EBMA, Follett also serves on the board of directors for the Follett Educational Foundation and the Southern Illinois University College of Mass Communications Dean’s National Advisory Council.
